Lawrence Hargrave


Lawrence Hargrave was born in Greenwich, England January 29, 1850. He went to school in England at Queen Elisabeth school of Grammar. In 1872 Lawrence came to Australia but his ship was wrecked on Queensland Coast. He settled down in Australia in 1877, New South Wales.

Lawrence Hargrave, the Australian inventor of the box kite, linked four of his kites together, added a sling seat, and flew 16 feet. By demonstrating to a sceptical public that it was possible to build a safe and stable flying machine

Lawrence Hargrave had a very big impact on Australia because He was the firdt man to fly in Australia and since then has always had an interrest in planes so has been inventing planes and planes engines ever since.
Lawrence Hargrave was a inventor, explorer, mason and astronomer.
