Fred Hollows   1929-1993
Fred Hollows was born in Dunedin, New Zealand. He  became a doctor and began to specialise in the treatment of diseases of the eye. He had to travel to England to do this and won a prize as one of the top students.

Fred Hollows came over in 1965 by plane to continue his work as an eye surgen.

Fred Hollows helped to train doctors in Africa.

Early in the 1970s, Hollows visited  New South Wales towns and stations in Aboriginal communities. He was very amazed with the amount of Aborigines with eye disorders, the most concerning was trachoma.

Fred Hollows himself went three years visiting Aboriginal communities to provide eye care and carry out a servey of eye diseases.

Fred Hollows impacted on not only Australia but also a lot of other countries around the world.
